In 2022, St Euphemia College partnered with Upschool transforming a 20-foot container into a mobile library for Lismore South Public School which was heavily impacted by floods earlier in the year.

The floodwaters reached unprecedented levels, disrupting school infrastructures and education facilities. Learning continuity was severely affected from closures, building damage, loss of resources and displacement of families – affecting attendance, teaching and supportive learning environments. (Sea & Star Advisory [July 2022] Lismore Flooding Impacts & Recovery Statement).

This project was inspired by their previous partnership (St Euphemia College & Upschool), raising $10,000 to convert a shipping container into a library for Gyan Ganga Institute of Technology & Sciences (GGITS) – a College in Jabalpur, India.

The Library for Lismore concept was more than just books. Once the shipping container was converted, the container became a library full of resources, and a functioning classroom for students and teachers.

Their fundraising goal was $30,000 – St Euphemia College raised $16,000 through student-led initiatives: lemonade stands, bake sales, sausage sizzles at Bunnings, and item auctions/raffles. Bitesize ‘FUN’raising helped St Euphemia College raise an additional $15,000, resulting in the success of their target goal!

This incredible story highlights the positive impact of what we can achieve, when like-minded organisations come together with a common goal in mind – creating a better learning environment for the next generation of future leaders.
